Mom's Day Craft

Mother's Day will soon be here! Drop in at the library anytime between 10 am and 2 pm on Saturday, May 5 to make a craft to give to mom on Mother's Day. All ages are welcome; no registration is required.

Book and Magazine Sale

The library’s annual Magazine and Used Materials sale will be held April 27 and 28 in the Forsyth Public Library’s conference room. Items are available for sale from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27 and from 10:00-1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28. All items in the sale have been removed from the library’s collection for reasons of datedness, condition or lack of circulation and the removal of these items will make room for updated materials.

This year’s sale includes young adult books, children’s books, videos, and magazines. Magazine issues are only 10 cents each, with videos and books priced at 25 cents each. DVDs will be sold for 50 cents each. Proceeds from the sale go to the Village’s general fund.

Help for Students

It’s that time of the school year; reports, papers, and projects are keeping students hard at work. If you are part of that studious group, be sure to try the library’s digital reference sources, available from home or at the library. Click on the “materials search” link in the right hand green box and then look for Grolier Online Encyclopedia and eLibrary. Access the materials by typing in your Forsyth library card number.

Grolier Online Encyclopedia’s link includes more than the encyclopedia. America the Beautiful, Lands and Peoples and The New Book of Popular Science are also part of this resource. eLibrary is information-rich, too, with full-text articles and multimedia files on any topic.

Celebrate National Library Week by learning more about the Forsyth Public Library. The library is sponsoring multiple programs and activities during the week of April 8-14, including several opportunities to learn how easy it is to access library resources from home or at the library. Informal sessions on Thursday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m., Friday, April 13 at 10:00 a.m., or Saturday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m. will demonstrate the library’s online catalog, show how you can access your personal library account, and provide information about the online databases provided by the library. Participants will discover the wide range of materials and information available by using a library card.

Drop-in Craft on March 24

Spend the first Saturday of spring decorating a miniature birdhouse to sit on your bookshelf or windowsill. Children are invited to visit the Forsyth Public Library anytime between 10:00 -2:00 on Saturday, March 24 to personalize a petite wooden birdhouse. No registration is necessary.

Saturday Preschool Programs

Preschool Storytimes

Children ages 3-5 are invited to attend storytime on Thursday mornings, March 1 through April 26. Additional Saturday sessions are scheduled for March 10 and April 14. Storytimes are held 10:00-10:45 a.m. in the conference room of the library. Each week includes stories, rhymes, games and simple crafts, all geared toward preschoolers. No registration is necessary; just come to the library and join the fun!

March storytimes will feature book characters including Clifford, Arthur, Curious George and other favorites. April sessions will focus on all types of weather. Youth Services Librarian Sandi Hayes encourages families with children ages 3-5 to join her for storytimes and adds that these sessions go beyond fun to develop imagination, strengthen listening skills, build vocabulary, and provide opportunities for social interaction.

E-Reader Classes

Are you considering the purchase of an e-reader? Learn more about the variety of devices available and how they can be used to download digital books from Library on the Go. Forsyth Public Library is offering “Introduction to E-readers” on Thursday, February 2 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Instructor Aric Monkman will compare the features of Nook, Kindle and other e-readers and then demonstrate how easy it is to borrow digital books with your library card. Please register in advance by calling the Library at 877-8174.

If you already have an e-reader but would like help using Library on the Go, training sessions are available on February 9, 16, or 23.. Aric returns to the Library each Thursday in February to provide guidance in accessing this library resource. Bring your e-reader, all cords, and your library card. If you have a laptop, bring that, too. Class size is limited to allow for individualized help, so call the library to reserve a spot in one of the 9:30 a.m. sessions.

LibraryOnTheGo is accessible from the Library’s webpage (www.forsythlibrary.com) and includes downloadable e-books, audio, books, movies and music. Materials can be downloaded to most e-readers, digital audio devices, and smartphones for 7 or 14 days, and are automatically returned at the end of the loan period, eliminating overdues.

Edible Snowmen

January weather is unpredictable, but visitors to the Forsyth Public Library will be creating some frosty characters without a single flake of snow. Visit the Library between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 28 to create an edible snowman using marshmallows, candy, and other delicious ingredients. These silly snowmen are guaranteed to be as adorable as they are tasty. No registration necessary.

Holiday Hours

The Forsyth Public Library will be open from 9:00 – noon on Saturday, December 24. The Library will be closed on Monday, December 26 and Friday, December 30. Library hours on Saturday, December 31 will be 9:00 – noon. Happy Holidays!

Christmas Cheer

Help fill the library with Christmas cheer by adding decorations to the Children’s Department tree. Children are invited to visit our holiday craft table to decorate glittery Christmas stockings and add a link to our paper chain. This drop-in craft activity is available through December 17.
