Responsibility for Selection

Final responsibility for the selection of materials rests with the Library Director who acts in accordance with accepted professional practice and those policies established by the Village Board of Trustees and the Library Advisory Committee. The Library Director may delegate materials selection duties to members of the library staff who possess training and experience in the principles and practices of materials selection. The Children’s Librarian is primarily responsible for determining the collection needs and ordering materials within the juvenile and young adult areas of the collection. The Library Director gives final approval to all orders. Titles and formats suggested by library staff members and by the general public are given thoughtful consideration and are generally purchased if they conform to the principles of selection outlined in this policy.
