Art Academy

Art Academy is a program for children ages 7 and up that offers art instruction by professional artists and art teachers for three projects. All classes are held during July on Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  Art Academy this year will be held on  July 9, 16, and 23.  Art will be displayed in Forsyth Park on July 26th during festivities marking the Forsyth 50th Anniversary. The theme for this year’s art academy is “Celebration.” Participants may pick their projects up at the park after 4:00 pm. on that day or from the library the following week.  The works must remain at the library until the time of the display.

Session I
July 9  1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
“Celebration”
Instructor:  Jennifer Cowgill

Celebration is a multi-faceted and universal way of saying “Life is good,” and personal and public expressions of celebration can be seen in every period and style of art.  Teacher Jennifer Cowgill will show us famous depictions of “celebration” in art and help us to understand the concept of perspective as we undertake to create our own version of “Life is good” in a work of art.

Session II
July 16  1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
“Celebration in Abstract”
Instructor:  Bonnie Metcalf

Using colored paper and lots of imagination, we’ll create abstract images that bring to mind the works of Kandinsky and others whose exploration of color and geometric shapes continue to intrigue us decades later.

Session III
July 23  1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Mixed-Media Collage
Instructor:  Jennifer Cowgill

Artist, Jennifer Cowgill, returns for our final session with a project in multi-media collage. Using paper, fabric and other embellishments, or media, we’ll create an imaginative visual that may be abstract in the fashion of the “Cubists” or “realistic”  in the style of folk artists who use found objects to create art.

Look for registration for Art Academy at the library during summer reading sign-ups beginning May 27th.
