Special Programs for Children and Adults

Summer readers may register to participate in these special events, which are held in addition to the Tuesday afternoon programs.  Age appropriateness applies as indicated.  Registration may be required; read the program descriptions for details.  Most programs will take place in the Community Room of the library.  Please call the library (877-8174) if your child is unable to attend a program for which he/she has registered. Doing so will help to assure accurate numbers of needed supplies and helpers.

Thursday July 15
The Artist’s Studio

Calling all budding artists…  Jenny Cowgill of Maroa presents two colorful projects using crayon wax resist and watercolor.  The first is an abstract design using line, color, pattern and repetition to create balance and unity. In a second project, students apply the same concepts to create a picture of a monster or mythological creature.  Students will have the option of taking their projects home that day or leaving them to be displayed in the library until the end of Summer Reading.  Registration required.

Thursday July 22
Monster Matinee

We’re having some scary, but kid-friendly movie entertainment for our summer readers (title to be announced).  After a warm-up cartoon, we’ll enjoy our feature presentation, complete with movie-time snacks.  Children may bring a blanket or pillow for more comfort.  Parents are also welcome to join us; chairs will be provided.  Registration required.

VolunTeen Pizza Party: the Fear Factory

All Teens who have served as volunteers throughout the summer are invited to attend this annual “thank you” party held just for them.  This summer we’re scaring up some all-new gross food challenges to test your limits, plus Eleanor Wood, young adult librarian from Decatur Public Library, shares her expertise as a stage make-up artist, turning attendees into zombies & other cool forms of the living dead.  We’ll eat, drink and be scary! Registration required.
