Library Services

The Forsyth Public Library offers print and non-print materials, as well as a variety of other services, to our library patrons and community.

Books

The library has a varied collection of books, including everything from board books for infants to current best-sellers for adults and everything in between. The collection includes up-to-date non-fiction, fiction, and major reference works, as well as large print versions of many popular titles.

Additionally, patrons can request books and other items from any of the almost five hundred other libraries in the Illinois Heartland Library System of which Forsyth is a member.

Newspapers and Periodicals

Currently, the library subscribes to more than a dozen local, regional, and national newspapers which patrons can browse in the library. Recent issues are archived for a few weeks.

The library subscribes to over 130 periodicals for adults, children, and youth. Magazines can be checked out, except for the current month’s issue of adult magazines.

Audio-Visual Materials

The library’s collection includes a wide range of adult and children’s DVDs, ranging from timeless classics to recent releases. The library also offers audiobooks for adults, children, and youth, both on CD and in Playaway format.

Online Resources

There are a number of online services which patrons can access in the library or at home with their Forsyth Public Library card number. These include e-books and audiobooks which can be checked out, and digital magazines and music files which can be downloaded. Additional online databases provide access to legal forms, test preparation help, investment research, and other information sources.

Computers and Copying

Public internet computers and Wi-Fi are available within the library. No log-in is required. Copying and printing in black & white and color are available for a fee, as is fax service. Scanning to email or to a USB drive is available for free. Library staff members are available to assist with these services.

Reference and Information Services

Library staff members are available to help patrons look up information both in library materials and online.

Historic Forsyth Resources

The library’s reference collection includes Village of Forsyth Board minutes, past copies of The Village Vision, and yearbooks from area schools, as well as historic photographs and documents owned by the Hickory Point Township Historical Society.

Family Programming

Throughout the year, the library offers a wide range of special programs for everyone from toddlers to seniors. Check the library’s monthly calendar for information about upcoming events.

Summer Reading Program

Each June and July, the library’s Summer Reading Program encourages children and adults to read for fun by rewarding readers with prizes. Special activities are also scheduled for kids, adults, and families.
