Saying Good-Bye, Yet Saying Hello

Join us at our Open House to wish Rachel Miller "Best Wishes!" on her retirement from FPL and "Congratulations!" to Steven Ward on his new position as Library Director on Tuesday, September 28 from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Refreshments will be offered.

Library Director Rachel Miller is retiring as of September 30, 2021, after more than 10 years at Forsyth Public Library. She also worked at FPL for several years in the mid-1980's, serving as the library's second director. "The people that use the Forsyth Public Library have become my friends and I'm going to miss seeing them on a daily basis," says Rachel, but adds that she is looking forward to spending time with family and finally having time to read a few good books!

Steven Ward grew up in Illiopolis, Illinois, and has spent the past eight years serving the public at a number of Central Illinois libraries. He recently served as Library Director at the Taylorville Public Library, and has also held positions at the University of Illinois at Springfield, MacMurray College, and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library. Steven holds Master's degrees in History from the University of Illinois at Springfield, and in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is passionate about providing access to information and diverse collections, as well as helping to foster lifelong learning skills within the community through information literacy instruction and programming and outreach initiatives. In his free time, Steven enjoys cooking, reading and writing, watching movies, and spending time with his wife Sara and their three dogs: Lana, Luna and Sadie.
